Souls
Souls (魂) are a form of Equipment introduced in Yo-kai Watch 2, and made consumable items in Yo-kai Watch 4. Their purpose varies greatly in Yo-kai Watch 4.
Usage
Yo-kai Watch 2
Souls are first introduced in Yo-kai Watch 2, and are used the same way until Yo-kai Watch 4. Souls function as a type of Equipment, in which different Souls from different Yo-kai can offer various effects, and can be equipped. You can also upgrade Souls to boost the effect that they give.
Obtaining Souls is done through Soulcery, where you must use up a Yo-kai Medal you own to turn it into a Soul. Because of this, if a Yo-kai has been turned into a Soul, while they'll still be recorded in your Yo-kai Medallium as befriended, you cannot use that Yo-kai for battle, trading, or any of the sort. You can also strengthen Souls or make new, unique Souls via Fusion.
Yo-kai Watch 4
Yo-kai Watch 4 takes a different approach to the usage of Souls in games prior, and they are now used to help befriend Yo-kai, craft Equipment, and train Yo-kai. There are also now six different classifications of Souls: Tribe Souls, Petite Souls, God Souls, Majin Souls, Boss Souls, and normal Souls. All of these types of Souls can be required to craft Equipment or train Yo-kai, but only normal Souls can be used to befriend Yo-kai. Training Yo-kai requires Tribe Souls, and which type of Tribe Soul required depends on the stat being trained.
Normal Souls typically have three different rarities, with some special exceptions having one rarity. These rarities are White, Red, and Gold Souls. You can also fuse White and Red Souls to make one Soul of a higher rarity. It costs three White Souls to make one Red Soul, and five Red Souls to make one Gold Soul. Additionally, you can split normal Souls to make Tribe Souls for that Yo-kai's Tribe, but you cannot split a Gold Soul or Red Soul to make a Red Soul or White Soul. The amount of Tribe Souls you get from splitting Souls can vary depending on the Yo-kai's Rank.
As there is no Soulcery in Yo-kai Watch 4, Souls can only be obtained through Soul Steals in normal battles or through drops after beating Yo-kai in Busters Missions. Some Busters Missions may also have Souls listed as a Clear Reward. The rate at which a Soul Steal can trigger in a normal battle depends on the Rank of the enemy Yo-kai. The chance for a Soul Steal to be triggered can also be increased by unlocking Watch Skills and by using Yo-kai with a Skill or Equipment that boosts the chance of triggering a Soul Steal. Soul Steal chances can also be further boosted by triggering a Follow-Up Attack, which guarantees a Soul Steal after being performed, and can also be boosted by unlocking Watch Skills.
